Seattle police clear hot spot for crime, drug activity |
|
It's the first weekend since a notorious Seattle hot spot for crime including drug activity and a black market for stolen goods has been cleared away. The concern for businesses and residents is keeping it away.
Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell is following through on his promise to respond to the city's homeless crisis and make public safety a priority. But, the move to clear an encampment from 4th Avenue right in front of City Hall on Sunday came with plenty of resistance from activists, and tents still remain. Despite all the full hospital beds, the ban on elective and non-urgent surgeries in Washington has been lifted. And now, the big question is how will hospitals begin to clear away the backlog of tens of thousands of cases? Students at Graham-Kapowsin High School held a walkout Friday to show support for a special needs student who was attacked in the school's bathroom Monday and demand that the school take action. -------------------------------------------------- For more on the lead story: https://komonews.com/news/local/12th-and-jackson-in-little-saigon-seattle-cleared-businesses-relieved-but-wonder-how-long _______________ Stay up to date with our social media: KOMO News on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/KOMONews/ KOMO News on Twitter: https://twitter.com/komonews KOMO News on Instagram: http://instagram.com/komo4 Subscribe to KOMO on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC__2_0RJ8XnHt2angfw6S1Q/?sub_confirmation=1 Watch more top local news stories: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G97AyNO_3IE&list=PLZm7uq7_dyY6qhFFIwgXRvYpkaOnZEabc&index=2&t=0s For all of the day’s top local and national news, visit http://www.komonews.com/ Watch our live newscasts and other live video at https://komonews.com/watch Download our iOS App: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/komo-news-mobile/id433508161?mt=8 Download our Android App: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.newssynergy.komo&hl=en Listen to KOMO Newsradio 1000 AM / 97.7 FM Live: https://komonews.com/live/komo-4-newsradio Have a news tip?
