video thumbnail
Children missing a limb deal with a unique set of challenges. While modern prosthetics may address many of their needs, many of the difficulties these children face are social in nature. In this talk, Dr. Albert Manero shares the unique solutions created by his organization, Limbitless Solutions. Dr. Albert Manero is the President of Limbitless Solutions non-profit, a direct support organization for the University of Central Florida. Limbitless Solutions is an engineering innovation company that helps children in need through the design and delivery of 3-D printed bionic limbs and disability technology that are donated to every family. The non-profit organization uses additive manufacturing to advance artistically personalized bionics and solutions for disabilities.

Manero was featured in the Microsoft Collective Project for his efforts, including the award winning viral video featuring Robert Downey Jr delivering their bionic arm to young Alex Pring. At UCF he mentors students learning design and innovation skills, while coordinating university students to inspire local elementary schools to encouraging children to dream big dreams in engineering. He recently served as a Mirzayan Science & Technology Policy Graduate Fellow with the National Academy of Engineering focused on engineering education policy considerations related to improving accessibility/inclusivity in STEM education.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
