Detroit Lions Rumors: Ben Johnson Press Conference, Jahmyr Gibbs EXPLODE In 2024? Jake Bates FAILS

While most of the Detroit Lions' offense will return intact from the 2023, season there has been one loss.

Josh Reynolds, the Lions second-leading receiver among wide receivers, signed as a free agent with the Denver Broncos.

Reynolds had 40 receptions for 608 yards, which was only bettered by star Amon-Ra St. Brown as far as Detroit's wideouts are concerned. Reynolds also had five touchdown catches.

But the further development of running back Jahmyr Gibbs as a receiver could make up for Reynolds' loss.

Gibbs had 945 yards rushing as a rookie last season along with 52 receptions for 316 yards and a touchdown. But that was mostly as a check-down target.

The Michigan Panthers and Birmingham Stallions squared off in what was a preview of their playoff game next week and the contest saw kicker Jake Bates misfire on a potential game-winning field goal.

After making it all the way to the NFC Championship Game in 2023 for the first time since 1991, anything short of a trip to the Super Bowl would be a disappointment for the Detroit Lions in 2024.

Of course, if the Lions make it to the Super Bowl it would be their first appearance in the Big Game in franchise history, but falling short of winning it would be a heart-breaker, to say the least, as it's extremely difficult to get there one time, let alone multiple.

In a recent article projecting the 2025 NFL Draft spots for all 32 teams in the league, ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) predicts the Lions will land the No. 30 overall pick, which means they'd fall short of the Super Bowl once again.

While the vast majority of teams in the NFL would gladly take that projection, the Lions aren't most teams after the season they just had.

The FPI projects a Super Bowl rematch between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers for this coming season, with the latter winning it based on their projected draft spot of No. 32 overall.

Though Dan Quinn is the new head coach of the Washington Commanders, many around the league believed Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson would take over the position.

Johnson ultimately will remain in Detroit this season, and after rumors that Johnson wasn't a lock to get the job in Washington, he responded to the "false narratives" being spread.

"There was in my opinion some false narratives going on out there," Johnson said, per Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio. "And it started towards the end of last year, before I made the decision to pull out. That comes with the territory. I'm good with that. That's part of life in the NFL. So, [it] doesn't affect me. I do feel for the people around me. I hate that my family would ever read stuff that's not necessarily the case. But they handled it really, really well. . . .
