Depression is a common and often overlooked symptom of multiple sclerosis, and anxiety is perhaps the most taxing and under-treated psychological effect of living with MS. Understandably, these significant health issues have been exacerbated by the physical, emotional, and financial toll of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
As part of MSAA’s 2021 MS Awareness Month campaign on Improving Mental Health and Wellness, clinical health psychologist Amy Sullivan, PsyD, ABPP shines a much-needed spotlight on the topics of depression and anxiety as they relate to MS and its symptoms, builds a deeper understanding about these important health issues, and provides helpful treatment and management strategies along with tips to improve one’s overall well-being and quality of life.
