The last ground combat of the second Persian invasion of Greece was the Battle of Plataea. A coalition of Greek city-states, including Sparta, Athens, Corinth, and Megara, and the Persian Empire of Xerxes I, who was allied with Greece's Boeotians, Thessalians, and Macedonians, engaged in battle in 479 BC close to the city of Plataea in Boeotia. What Salamis had begun, Platea brought to a triumphant conclusion. Both by sea & land Xerxes’ defeat was absolute.
