Designing for Purpose: Brian Lee at TEDxFargo

video thumbnail
As an architect and urban designer, Brian Lee considers himself a pragmatist in search of the poetic. He brings a hands-on design approach to his work—maintaining a full integration of the natural and built environment, and providing meaning to those who live and work in the spaces. Along with context, culture, and landscape, a fundamental question that guides Mr. Lee's work is how buildings—their aesthetics, programs, and tectonics—enrich the experiences they engender. Mr. Lee seeks to constantly explore new and appropriate ways to build structures of lasting value and impact and has designed unique, landmark projects across the globe, including East and Southeast Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Mr. Lee's design for Jinling Tower in Nanjing, China, was featured in the 2004 Venice Biennale. His work has also received numerous awards and has been published in architectural journals in the United States, Europe, and Asia.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
