Policy Exchange was delighted to host the London launch of Dr William Matchett's book "Secret Victory: The Intelligence War that beat the IRA."

General David Petraeus described the book as "superbly researched, highly readable, and very thoughtful"

Dr Matchett is a Senior Researcher at the Edward M Kennedy Institute for Conflict Intervention at Maynooth University.

He previously served for 30 years as a member of the Royal Ulster Constabulary (George Cross) and the Police Service of Northern Ireland. Most of his career was in Special Branch. He has also worked in Iraq and Afghanistan where he was part of police building programmes by the US Department of Defense and the European Union. He has briefed the Pentagon on the challenges of policing conflict.
