MicroMike and the panel talk about the latest news and rumors regarding the Detroit Lions. The latest update from Lions OTAs and how the players are doing. MicroMike and the panel talk about Jared Goff better than expected for the 2021 NFL season.
Plenty of Detroit Lions players have landed in Allen Park to kick off Phase Three of the NFL offseason. Though the Lions apparently took the field on Monday, their OTA sessions officially kick off on Tuesday for a three-day string of practices running through Thursday. We’ve already gone over some of the biggest storylines for OTAs, but what about specific players? From rookies, to free agent signings, to players we’re hoping will take big steps due to Detroit’s new coaching staff, there are plenty of players of intrigue this week at practice. And that’s just the half of it. There’s also Jared Goff’s first practice in Detroit and the highly entertaining coaching staff that has become a sight to see on their own. So today’s Question of the Day is: Which players are you most excited to see/hear about from Lions OTAs? My answer: I’ll name three. First is Jeff Okudah. This offseason, we’ve seen defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn talk up the second-year cornerback. We’ve heard from Okudah himself tell the media that he’s seeing the game completely differently under the tutelage of Glenn and secondary coach Aubrey Pleasant. I truly believe Okudah has the talent to be a top-tier corner in this league, and I’m excited to see the first signs of that this week. Second: Penei Sewell. We’ve already gotten confirmation (via photos from Monday) that Sewell is on site after he missed rookie minicamp due to a positive COVID-19 test. Offensive line play is fun to watch during these opening practices, and Sewell will rightfully be the center of attention. Finally, Tracy Walker. Again, this is someone who should theoretically benefit from Glenn and Pleasant. We’ve seen Walker play well in this league, but we haven’t seen him do it consistently. Though he never said it directly, it was clear reading between the lines he didn’t exactly see eye-to-eye with the previous coaching staff. Can he recapture some of that magic under Dan Campbell and company?
