Evaru Movie Review:

A corrupt cop Vikram Vasudev (Adivi Sesh) is put as an investigative officer for a high profile murder case involving a murder. Sameera (Regina Cassandra) is the accused of killing — (Naveen Chandra). However, she has another version about the happenings to Vasudev (Adivi Sesh). Finding out the truth is what the movie is all about.

Adivi Sesh‘s Performance? Adivi Sesh is a decent actor who helps the narrative in that he doesn’t let it down. He does enough to keep things alright, and the rest is taken care of by the story and screenplay whichever element is stronger. Those are key to his success, much more than his acting and the same continues to hold true for Evaru as well. There is a visible improvement in screen presence of Adivi Sesh. It is more to do with his confidence rather than performance, though. Adivi Sesh is never detrimental to the proceedings and treads a cautious yet reliable path to hook the audience.
Regina Cassandra and Others? Although Adivi Sesh is the ‘lead’ of the movie, it is Regina Cassandra’s performance that is a make or break deal for the film. She has come up with a compelling act with a few surprises up her sleeve. The actress is sure to take people by surprise if one is not aware of what is in store. Naveen Chandra and Murali Sharma are the other prominent characters in the movie. They have done a steady job, especially the latter even though he is seen only in a brief part. Naveen Chandra gets a different role than usual and is alright. Raja Ravindra and the rest of the artists have nothing much to do and are forgettable.

Direction by Venkat Ramji? Adivi Sesh is off late on a roll with back to back engaging content in different genres. Most of them have been original, but Evaru is a remake. It is based on a Spanish thriller, and director Venkat Ramji has been handed the responsibility of bringing it to Telugu audience. The original is a thriller with fast-paced screenplay and enough twists and turns to keep the audience engaged. All Venkat Ramji needed to do was keeping the blueprint intact and readjust it for Telugu audience without losing the gripping narrative of the original. He has mostly succeeded in doing that, also bring some small changes in the process. The entire first half, barring the interval, is really like a long set up. The film comprises of limited characters, so the proceedings involving the same set might look a bit slow initially. However, a lot is happening right before us, with payoffs coming during the second half. The interval bang is neat. It is a simple yet interesting connection between the stories of the characters we hear on screen. It is the first instance of the twist in the tale thrown at us. The second half builds on the interval and takes us further into the narrative revealing the suspense one by one. The whole process is similar to the original, for a large part. As is with any remake, those who have seen the original might not be enamoured with what’s happening, but for a new audience, the proceedings will surely provide a thrilling experience. Then, towards the end, there is a bit of deviation from the original. It is not too far to entirely come as a shock, and yet not too predictable either to make it look like a pointless change. It is a decent ‘change’. It helps in making one understand that the team behind Evaru have genuinely worked on the remake and not just used it as a simple cash grab opportunity. Overall, Evaru is a nice thriller that lives up to the promise. The lack of real surprise in the downside, considering it is a remake. But, it is for a small segment. Others, who are watching Evaru afresh will find it very engaging, and hence a recommended watch at cinemas, this Independence Day weekend.
