Flammable Ice Bubbles Methane bubbles form in bodies of water when dead organic matter, like leaves and animals, falls into the water and sinks to the bottom. The bacteria in the lake bed consumes the matter and releases methane. The methane floats to the surface of the water and disperses. But what happens when subzero temperatures turn that lake into a skating rink? Then you get flammable ice bubbles. 9. Brinicles If you go to the coldest places in the world and look under the water, you'll find a series of ice formations known as the Ice Fingers, or brinicles. While this may not seem impressive at first glance, they can grow to be well beyond the length of a human, which on average is over five feet tall. 8. Fireball Believe it or not, there are many different accounts of "fireballs in the sky" that have been documented, including the "Naga's Fireballs" which are still debated to this day. However, the ones we're focusing on here are via a picture taken on the Portuguese islands of Madeira. It clearly shows a fireball of massive size in the sky, and many are wondering what it truly is. Is fire really raining down from the sky? 7. Raining Animals If you were to hear that it was "raining animals", you would no doubt question the source that it came from, but in fact, it's something that has happened all over the world. As well as happening with many different types of animals. 6. Rogue Wave Rogue Waves are massive waves that literally come out of nowhere to crash against boats and ships with such terrible impact that many have been sunk because of them, and because the conditions that cause them are so unpredictable and random, they cannot be prepared for. So much so that there are various and numerous explanations for how Rogue Waves come to be, and why they're so ferocious. 5. "Breathing" Earth In Quebec, a very unusual sighting was found via a hiker. Basically, he went and found a spot of earth that looked like it was actually breathing. Because as you can see, the ground is pulsating in a rhythmic way, almost like it is indeed breathing. 4. Blood Falls Despite what the name might suggest, this is not a "natural waterfall full of blood", rather, it's a waterfall coming out of a glacier in Antarctica that flows red. Which is obviously, and thankfully, entirely different. The glacier in question is the Taylor Glacier, and the reason for its red coloring is rather simple in context. 3. Taos Hum In Taos, New Mexico, there is a weird hum that can be heard by only 2% of the people who live there or visit there. This is known as the Taos Hum, and depending on who you talk to, you'll get different answers to the obvious question of, "What did it sound like?" Which is just one layer of a mystery that continues to this day. 2. Milky Sea Phenomenon Bioluminescence is a process of the body of certain animals and plants that allows them to glow certain colors. Just as important though, there are some areas of the world that have plants or algae that illuminate certain areas of water. However, well outside of these areas, sailors from many periods of time have noted that the oceans or seas that they've traveled on have glowed for unknown reasons, and never in the same spot. 1. Beacon of Maracaibo In Venezuela, there is lightning that virtually never stops. This is known as the Beacon of Maracaibo. This happens every night in Western Venezuela over the Catatumbo River. Starting at around 7:00 pm, lightning will start to strike the river, and it won't stop for the next ten hours. #natural #phenomena #nature #events #mysterious #world #worldlist #top10 |
