Police said they did not expect to find any more survivors from the deadly volcanic eruption that killed at least five people, injured up to 20 and left an unknown number unaccounted for.

At emergency sites on the mainland, people were wheeled off on stretchers.

Officials have confirmed many were tourists visiting White Island. White Island is home to one of New Zealand's most active volcanoes.
