Every year in France, seven million tons of food are thrown away by individuals, supermarkets and markets - waste which represents a loss of more than 400 euros per year per household. A law passed in February 2016 requires supermarkets to donate their unsold products to charities and food banks. But it's an uphill battle as the fines are not yet applicable.
