July 14, 2020 | Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health and a member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, will join Georgetown students for an update on the COVID-19 pandemic, a consideration of its implications for public policy, and a candid conversation on the unique risks and responsibilities young people have in mitigating the spread of COVID-19.

The inherent uncertainty of a global pandemic, combined with our evolving and changing understanding of the disease and the effectiveness of potential interventions, presents a unique challenge for policymakers. The situation is further complicated by the significant spread of misinformation and disinformation on social media, making it difficult to rally support around necessary policies. As one of the most visible leaders in public health, Dr. Fauci brings years of experience and deep expertise to global and national efforts to combat COVID-19. The conversation will be moderated by the Global Health Initiative’s John Monahan and GU Politics’ Mo Elleithee.

This event is co-sponsored by Georgetown's Global Health Initiative, Institute of Politics and Public Service at the McCourt School of Public Policy (GU Politics), the O'Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law, and the Kalmanovitz Initiative on Labor and the Working Poor.
