(old video) Three 'Major Scale Mastery' Ideas | Study Links |
![]() |
Major scales often cause eye-rolling or dread but they don't need to. They are the foundations of chords, composing, improvisation, other scales, can be used for technical exercises, are necessary for transposition (key changing), note value awareness and much, much more. Without absolute mastery of them, your efforts, quite simply, are futile.
--- Herein, I provide three ways for you to play with the major scales to REALLY reinforce them when at the piano. Of course, time away from the piano on your internal piano quickens your natural progress but here we are at the piano actually playing and listening to them. 1. Playing from each note of the major scale to itself one octave higher using only the notes of the selected major scale. 2. Creating a melody and transposing it through all 12 keys. 3. Mix n' match the 4 primary chord types to all the notes of each major scale (this one is VERY beneficial).
