Virtual Tour of NARA’s Heritage Science Research Lab |
![]() |
Lindsay Oakley, NARA’s Director of Heritage Science Research and Testing explains what heritage science is and introduces the scientists and research projects that make the lab such an important part of NARA’s preservation efforts. This video presentation is OPEN CAPTIONED.
Disclaimer: In order to tell the story of the research as clearly as possible, we made a few production choices we wanted to mention for interested viewers. In the section describing Fourier-Transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), the best take didn't have the best spectra, so a representative spectra of Prussian Blue was used. Also, when demonstrating the microfader, we removed a neutral density filter and turned the light up higher than normal, so it shows better. Finally, only facsimiles or study collection materials were used in the video, not records. |
