Now that the Bethesda and Microsoft deal has closed it is time to revisit the topic of a potential New Vegas 2. This idea of a Fallout spinoff or remake by Obsidian has been constantly discussed and here I go over what may actually happen.

Notes:
- Last week the MSFT Bethesda deal finally came to a close and immediately we saw some speculation and discussion on the potential of a New Vegas 2 or really a Fallout spinoff in general
o The big reason being that, although the MSFT deal was announced back in September, only now would work on a hypothetical New Vegas 2 by Obsidian or another MSFT owned studio actually begin
o So lets discuss whether or not this could actually happen as I would argue this likely isn’t all bad news
- So immediately this discussion looks at Obsidian – creator of many fans favorite Fallout game ever, now that MSFT owns both Obsidian and Bethesda/the Fallout IP a lot of people naturally connect those dots…
o Some even taking it a step further that things like Avowed should be cancelled to focus on Bethesda projects instead – and that is the head of reviews at IGN
o except there is some problems with this all – Obsidians current project list
 ToW DLC which quite literally just concluded – so that team led by Megan Sparks can move onto something else, but likely small considering it was just DLC
• But then again a ton of new job listings just went up for Obsidian – including a network programmer
 Grounded
 Avowed which seems to be a pretty large project, like the largest thing in progress right now
• Based on job listings and more it seems like many devs moved from ToW to Avowed after ToW released
• Chris Parker, for instance - director of Alpha Protocol - is now making a new game, presumably in charge of it – from late-2019, likely Avowed
 Josh Sawyer is leading a team on something – not too sure what it is, but it isn’t Avowed or a New Vegas 2
• Been on this project seemingly since late 2019 at least
 Leonard Boyarsky/Tim Cain – The Outer Worlds 2 seems the obvious choice
• Take-Two CEO- “It's outperforming our expectations handily”
 Brandon Adler twitter bio: Game Director at Obsidian Entertainment. Currently working on an unannounced project
• Although above could hypothetically be on the same projects
o So Obsidian seemingly has 6 or so projects in the works between announced and unannounced stuff
 All we really know is this quote from Adam Brennecke: "Just like with Outer Worlds we have big RPGs being worked on right now. We have a lot of stuff being worked on right now."
 The thing is none of these could be Fallout. The team working on ToW DLC could hypothetically move onto Fallout starting now, but that team is quite small with a first time game director on it – not how you envision the Fallout IP going
- So either Obsidian was already working on something Fallout before MSFT acquired Bethesda – which Todd Howard said was unlikely in 2018 with how much bigger Bethesda is – or a Fallout game from them would be far out
o Likely Avowed is next in 2021 or 2022, then perhaps Project Missouri from Sawyer, perhaps The Outer Worlds 2 at some point and we get around to 2025 pretty quickly.
o Obsidian has a very full plate and it seems like even if they were to work on something Fallout it would be a ways away
o On hiring more people the studio head has said he likes keeping things smaller: only got slightly bigger post buyout and mentioned no plans to go above 200 employees, prefers focused games
