Lady Chatterley's Lover is a 2022 romantic drama film directed by Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre from a screenplay by David Magee based on the novel of the same name by D. H. Lawrence.[1] The film stars Emma Corrin and Jack O'Connell. Lady Chatterley's Lover was released in select cinemas on 25 November 2022, before its streaming release on 2 December 2022, by Netflix. Young Constance Reid, raised in a modestly bohemian family, has had a few romantic affairs before marrying Baronet Clifford Chatterley. He returns to fighting in WWI the morning after they consummate the marriage. Becoming Lady Chatterley is a huge change for Connie. A Londoner, where she lived with her sister Hilda, her new home is the massive Chatterley estate. Clifford returns home from the war paralyzed from the waist down, so he needs full-time care. As Connie loves him, she does her best. However, his impotency and lack of interest and affection wears on her. Seeing as Clifford wants an heir, he suggests Connie find someone purely to impregnate her, not to form an attachment. Devastated and aching for affection and touch, she contacts Hilda. When she sees how worn down Connie is, hires Mrs. Bolton to be Clifford’s caretaker. Sent by her husband to check on some pheasant chicks with the gamekeeper Oliver Mellors, a curious Connie stops by her neighbor and local school teacher’s and asks about him. She finds out his philandering wife left him while he was fighting in the war. Using the chicks as her excuse for future contact with Oliver, with few words spoken between them but some kindness from him, they connect. Connie is the initiator, while he is more conscious of the class difference. The love affair soon has so heated up that Connie's "walks" take hours. Clifford hardly notices as he spends most of his time with business associates, discussing the mine protests erupting in the district. However, his nurse-maid Mrs. Bolton alertly notices Connie's unkempt hair and glow. Oliver calls Connie "m'lady" in a tone of deep respect and has a hard time dropping it after they've been intimate as he has always had class awareness ingrained in him. Noticing signs of pregnancy, she plants the idea to her husband the idea of traveling to Venice with her sister and helps spread a rumor in town that they are actively trying to conceive. Hilda comes to collect Connie for the trip and is finally told about Oliver. Strongly disapproving, she tells the lovers as such, but leaves to let her spend the night. Oliver’s ex wife's partner comes by the cottage, seeking part of his war pension as they’re not divorced, but finds evidence of Connie. Down at the pub, he spreads rumors about Oliver and Connie, noting her silk undergarments and book as evidence. When Clifford hears, he sacks him. Mrs. Bolton warns Connie, who rushes back to see Oliver. After Connie and Oliver pledge to reunite when they can, she goes back to the manor. Confronting Clifford, she explains his lack of affection drove her away. Connie tells him she's pregnant by Oliver, but he declares he will never give her a divorce as she leaves for London and Venice. Mrs. Bolton promises to put the word out that Connie is seeking Oliver. After some months in Venice, they tire of its smallness and head back to London. Word has spread across the UK by word of mouth from pub to pub about a Lady who has given up her title and wealth for their gamekeeper because she loves him. A letter arrives to Connie from Oliver, calling her to join him. She drives the nearly 2,000 km north to share a simple life in the countryside with him.
