Dr. Justin Carré, Professor of Psychology within the Faculty of Arts and Science, is conducting a research project titled, The Social Neuroendocrinology of Human Aggression. With funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Council of Canada (NSERC), he studies neuroendocrine mechanisms that trigger human competitive and aggressive behaviours. Initial investigations indicate that testosterone concentrations rise in response to winning a competition and decrease in response to losing. In addition, hormonal responses to competition can predict future competitive and aggressive behaviour.
