Liverpool are expected to be without both Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara for Wednesday's Champions League clash with Ajax.

Matip went for a scan after the 2-2 draw with Everton at Goodison Park and while no lasting damage was detected in a leg muscle, the centre-back didn't appear during Tuesday's opening training session, footage of which can be seen here.

Neither did Thiago, who was the victim of a poor tackle on Saturday from Everton winger Richarlison, who was duly sent off.

With just Matip and Joe Gomez as the club's only two senior centre-backs following the potentially season-ending ACL injury for Virgil van Dijk, manager Jurgen Klopp is unlikely to risk the defender for the Group B opener in Amsterdam. Fabinho is set to start, with youngsters Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips on back-up.
