They're getting everything, and you're getting nothing. Everyone involved in a situation contributes to its reputation by doing their best.

On the other hand, narcissists are always unreasonable in their demands and never satisfied with anything less than perfection. To a narcissist, respect is useless. It's easy to win someone's admiration; all it takes is a few empty compliments and a little bit of time and effort. They will be able to make it till the next time they receive a compliment if they do this.
