What is Serious Art? My Views and a Bit of a Rant about Modern Art - from my online art course |
|
What kind of art do you like? Why do you like it? Is it because you really enjoy it or because someone convinced you it was important or significant?
This was initially intended for the members of my online art course, but I thought my subscribers might be interested in it as well. A comment by one of my students about a painting critique I did in one of our monthly webinars prompted this video. She thought that critiquing a folk art piece was a waste of time because it wasn't serious art. I disagree with the premise of what constitutes serious art. I also talk about my journey as an artist and how that led to my becoming an impressionistic landscape and flower painter. I realize it is very long.- I'm just not sure what to cut out of it - so hopefully if you watch the whole thing you will feel your time was well spent. If nothing else this will be good for my grand kids to understand why I paint the way I do and why it's important for them to think for themselves and not just go along because some supposed expert says to think a certain way. About the Artist: Learn from impressionist Bill Inman as he demonstrates for his class how to breathe life into loose abstract color masses. He records his painting class demos and thought those videos would be helpful for his students to refer back to. He then decided to share them with his followers on YouTube. He is classically trained with 5 years of figure, head and fashion drawing from the model and holds an MFA in studio painting. He sells his work through galleries around the country as a full time artist. These colors and techniques generally apply equally well with oil or acrylic paint. "My goal is to help viewers feel like they are looking out a window or doorway into a beautiful scene, one that beckons to forget the world a while and simply enjoy the peace and serenity, the incredible beauty Heavenly Father has provided." His art studio address is in Muncie, Indiana - if you want more information about classes call (765) 749-0210. Class size is limited and the class is designed for experienced students. If you are a beginner painter and want to learn just call him - he may start a fundamentals class once or twice a month. Bill has been a full time artist for more than 20 years and sold his first painting in a professional gallery at the age of 17 while still in high school. He is a recipient of the Congressional Art Award, has been featured in Southwest Art Magazine and has his work in collections around the world. He teaches a 3 hour painting class twice a month in his studio and periodic workshops. Bill and his beautiful wife Kristie have 7 children and two grandsons. "They are my deepest source of joy and inspiration, especially Kristie who has courageously endured 25 years of living with an absent minded artist who has never been a financial wizard!" Enjoy! |
