June the 20th 2000. 20 Years ago to the day Deftones Released their massively successful third album White Pony.
Where to start with this one? White Pony basically changed the metal musical landscape as we know it.
I can't even begin to explain how huge of an influence this album had on me, and every angsty teen back in the year 2000. Ask any musician, what Deftones album inspired them? Guaranteed, 90% will say it was White Pony.
White Pony was a huge leap in the Deftones sound. Adding extra layers of synths, and getting more experimental with their already unique blend of nu metal. This album was so popular at the time, that their record label (Maverick) released different versions of the CD, including extra tracks, colored cases, and CD-ROM content. It also won a Grammy Award, for best metal performance.
Anyway... this album is freakin' amazing. It's still on heavy rotation on my playlist, still to this day.
Oh yeah, I cover probably the best song on the album, Knife Party. It's got everything, such a huge track.
