iPad Mini 2 with Retina Display Unboxing and Overview

video thumbnail
A quickie video showing the unboxing of Apple's newly unveiled iPad Mini with Retina Display. Apple announced on October 22, 2013 that they will be releasing a revamped version of their highly popular Apple iPad tablet.

The changes to this year's tablets are an ongoing evolution of their already highly successful design formula. Notable differences in this year's new iPad Mini is the addition of the highly sought after Retina display (2048x1536 pixels giving a total of 326 pixel per inch of resolution). Other improvements include MIMO (multiple in and multiple out wi-fi), a newly designed Apple 64-bit A7 processor as well as the separate M7 motion co-processor to enable this new table to take advantage of future applications written in 64 bit architecture. This new 64 bit design will help somewhat future proof the tablet when developers evolve their iOS apps take advantage of more graphically intensive and user immersive environments. The best part about these improvements (which should've really been on the original iPad Mini) is the same 10 hour battery life.

Is the new iPad Mini worth the extra $100 over the old iPad Mini? ABSOLUTELY worth every penny. The old iPad Mini in my opinion was crippled the day it was released. Despite it being released in 2012 it was still using a processor technology released in late 2010 (think iPad 2) and iOS and it's respective apps have evolved so much that the amount of processing power just to run iOS 7 for example needs more than just a dual core 1GHz processor.

Spend the extra $100 to buy the latest from Apple and you can be sure that your tablet will serve you well for the next few years.

Some improvements I would've expected on this iPad but weren't included in this release are:
Where's the camera flash?
Where is the touch ID home button found on the iPhone 5S?
They jacked the price up which I felt should've stayed the same.
They didn't deep discount the old iPad Minis.
The camera technology is falling behind that of Samsung's tablets and smartphones.

Get your new iPad Mini today as there has been plenty of rumours floating around Apple's Supply Chain that they're only able to produce a total of 3 million units before year's end vs. last year's production figures of 8-9 million units. Why the shortage? Retina displays are hard to come by and Apple's had to go to competitors such as Samsung to ask them to assist in building them the highly sough after (and super expensive) display.
