The Boston Celtics have two young all-stars in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown but they are definitely having a start to the 2021 NBA season that is slower than expected. Brad Stevens’ team has failed to make it to the top 10 of offensive and defensive rankings so far, while also failing to become a top 3 team in the East despite them making it to the 2020 Eastern Conference finals against the Miami Heat. The departure of Gordon Hayward looks like it has impacted the Celtics in a huge way. While Kemba Walker and Marcus Smart have been injured, Tatum and Brown have had some help with rookie Payton Pritchard who looks solid as well as young guys like Robert Williams and Grant Williams. But still, Danny Ainge seems to have failed to pull off some offseason Celtics trades that would have filled up their roster. Boston has added veterans Jeff Teague and Tristan Thompson, but their impact fails in comparison to that of the signings of the Nets, Sixers, and the Bucks. So, what is the problem with the Boston Celtics? Has Danny Ainge really done enough so far to build a championship-caliber team around the 23 year old Jayson Tatum and 24 year old Jaylen Brown? Or has he not utilized his assets by failing to trade Gordon Hayward for Myles Turner? And can he improve the Celtics during the trade deadline by going for guys like Jerami Grant or Thaddeus Young? Can Boston really build around Tatum and Brown the right way to win an NBA championship in the near future?
