Ansgar Gerstner is a German sinologist who spent the years between 1985-89 in Taipei studying Wing Chun (詠春拳) with Shifu Lo Man Kam (盧文錦), while also studying Mandarin and Chinese philosophy in Taiwan. He received a doctorate in Chinese studies from the University of Trier, Germany having written his doctoral dissertation on the Daodejing/Tao Te Ching (道德經), a central text of Daoist/Taoist philosophy. From 2006-2013 he was living in Shanghai where he learned the Shaolin tendon method (少林易筋經). In those years he also met his Daoist teacher (大夫道人) in Beijing with whom he learned the Yin Yang & 5 elements method (陰陽五行功) and the Daoyin method (導引功). He is now living in Hamburg, Germany. He gives Neigong/Qigong (內功/氣功) seminars and offers individual instruction, offline and online, for Neigong/Qigong as well as the internal aspects of Wing Chun. He studied with Lo Man Kam for three years of those years and then into the early 1990's with Hawkins Cheung in Los Angeles. Other studies include Northern Shaolin, Arnis/Escrima, Tai Chi, Zen, Taoism, and Animism. He earned a BA degree in Fine Art from Penn State and an MFA Cal Arts. As an artist, he's worked in a wide variety of media, primarily enjoying film, sculpture, and ceramics. He taught art at a private high school in San Diego for 20 years. He currently teaches workshops and offers consultations in creativity and art program evaluations. Steve Cook is an ordained minister and the founder of Serotinism. |
