Attack on Rangiaowhia, February 21st 1864

On February 21st 1864, forces from Colonel Marmaduke Nixon's Colonial Defence Force and Captain Gustavus von Tempsky's Forest Rangers arrived at the village of Rangiaowhia. After Sergeant Edward McHale and a soldier from the 65th Regiment were both shot dead in front of a whare, a fight ensued which would leave several British dead and approximately a dozen Maoris killed, including unarmed civilians.
