If your new iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, or iPhone XR became unresponsive, you’ve might have tried the button combo from the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus in order to force-restart it — but it didn't work.

That’s because the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR use those buttons together to open up Emergency SOS instead, unlike on the 7 and 7 Plus, which use 5 clicks of the Side button to do the same.

On the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR, as well as the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and X, instead of holding the Side and Volume Down buttons together, press the Volume Up button, then the Volume Down button, then press-and-hold the Side button for 10 seconds. When the Apple logo appears, let go, and you're device will open to the unlock screen.
